Historical Caves in Birjand Chenesht and chehel-chah caves:Chenesht cave is located in sixty kilometers southeast of birjand and in a village with the same name . Regarding the historical texts ، this cave was discovered six hundred years ago by (seyed Muhammad mosha ‘sha’)...on the basis of narrative traditions, seyed Muhammad went to ghahestan from Saudi arabia & after the discovery of the cave; from there he took the corpses of seyed hamed alavi and his sons to the mausoleum where he has already built to burry them Given evidences from ayati , the deceased man certify that hamed (alhamed) alavi has probably been son of imam Ja’ffar Sadegh (pbuh) & of alavi’s fighters , who got woundedand tracked down by Caliph Abassi’s agents and was martyred at the same place. Chenesht cave is for over fifty nine meters long, some parts of it are high and wide and some other parts are narrow and difficult to pass. Some dead bodies, wood, earthenware, cloth, and spinning machine have been observed in this cave. With building walls in some parts of the cave, some space is created. The evidences represent that over different times, this cave has been used as a refuge.In a 100 meter distance from chenesht, there is another cave which is called Chehel-chah. Some corpses remaining have been observed in this cave which probably belongs to the fugitives who have taken the cave as a refuge. Chehel-dokhtar Cave This cave is near Kalate Akhond village, one of the villages of naharjan’s rural district, situated in sarbisheh districtAnd it is approximately located in seventy-five kilometers southeast of birjand. There is an arch-like space at the entrance of the cave that is of one meter and half height and inside the cave there is a hall which its height in various parts is different from each other & it is three meters high on the average.Regarding the deposits pile up in the cave’s bed, some of its corridors have gotten filled & blocked.This cave was discovered in 1995 and traces such as stony tools like:A large copping-knife, blade, & some veins of flint in body of its mountain &… have been observed and discovered.The existence of spring and inner spaces of the cave indicates that this place has been used as a refuge.
